TN man urges people to donate for Kerala relief, but posts his account details

Kerala Police have initiated legal action against a Tiruchirappalli native

The Kerala Police have initiated legal action against a native of Tiruchirappalli for allegedly attempting to dupe the public by propagating messages on social media in which he advertised his bank account number as that of the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

The Cantonment police has registered a case against Vijay Kumar of Tiruchirappalli. On the basis of a request by Inspector General (Thiruvananthapuram range) Manoj Abraham, the State Bank of India has blocked the account which had been opened at the City Branch in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mr. Abraham told The Hindu that the whereabouts of the accused was yet to be ascertained. He added that the bank account had been opened a reasonable period ago.

The fake message in Tamil urged the public to support the people of Kerala who have been affected by the floods and to contribute towards the relief fund by remitting amounts to the specified bank account.
